This cutting-edge technology provides a high-resolution, 3-D image of your teeth and their underlying bone structure. A CBCT scan allows Dr. Fritz and Dr. Schuldt to diagnose and develop a to-the-tenth-of-a-millimeter surgical plan before the day or surgery.
This allows for remarkable safety and accuracy. Dr. Longo’s doctorate research was among the first to establish CT technologies as the gold-standard for imaging of bone structure. Her background in radiation and radiation safety were integral in establishing safe and accurate CBCT imaging procedures. After receiving your CBCT scan, we will provide you with a detailed description of your unique bone structure and answer any questions you may have to ensure that you have a full and comprehensive understanding of your periodontal health and wellness.
When determining the most appropriate medical and/or dental imaging required, one must always follow the ALARA principle, As Low As Reasonably Achievable.
Your periodontist will only recommend and prescribe a CBCT scan in instances where the advantages of a 3D digital image of the specific area under investigation outweigh any disadvantages.
If you have specific questions about your need for a CBCT scan, ask your dental health team to discuss the benefits specific to you.
A CBCT is a 3D xray. As such, it does emit some radiation. However, the amount of radiation is up to 10x less than an average medical CT and only approximately 2x greater than a conventional dental x-ray.
